This site intends to present solar storms: their story, their formation, their impacts as well as the different existing means of protection against this phenomenon.
Solar storms have always existed and will never cease to hit the Earth. The first consequences of a solar storm on our planet were registered in September 1859. This storm, sometimes known as the Carrington event, had a considerable impact on the telegraph network, the only grid of the time. Today our society uses more and more new technologies. Some lines of business are even completely dependent on them. Therefore, it seems interesting to wonder about this subject.
On this website can be found a reflection on the following question: ‘Are current technologies able to resist a solar storm similar to the 1859’s one?’
The pages are arranged in a chronological order to facilitate the understanding. Also, feel free to click on the images to enlarge and optimize reading of captions.
